OVERVIEW
SFDC's fire stopping division provides fully certified, third-party approved passive fire protection solutions across all building types. We install and certify fire stopping systems ensuring compliance with Building Regulations Approved Document B and the Fire Safety Act 2021.
YEARS OF EXCELLENCE
Since Grenfell, the scrutiny on passive fire protection has intensified significantly. SFDC has responded by investing in rigorous training, third-party certification and comprehensive documentation processes to give our clients complete confidence that every fire stopping installation is correctly specified, installed and evidenced.
RANGE OF FEATURES
Installation of appropriately specified cavity barriers within SFS, facade and roof systems — critical for preventing unseen fire spread through building cavities.
Fire stopping around all service penetrations through fire-rated floors, walls and ceilings, using system-tested intumescent and ablative products.
Fire stopping of linear gaps between floors and facades, curtain walls and floors, and at structural movement joints — a critical but often overlooked element.
We carry out full compartmentation surveys on existing buildings, identifying deficiencies and providing remediation works with full photographic evidence.
IN DEPTH
Passive fire protection is the built-in construction systems — fire stopping, cavity barriers and fire-rated partitions — that contain the spread of fire and smoke without requiring activation, providing occupants with vital evacuation time. SFDC's fire stopping division provides fully certified, third-party approved passive fire protection solutions across all building types, from high-rise residential and commercial offices to healthcare and educational facilities. Our operatives hold FIRAS or IFC Cert third-party certification, the industry's recognised competency schemes, ensuring every installation meets the highest standards of compliance.
The Fire Safety Act 2021 and the Building Safety Act 2022 have placed new obligations on building owners and contractors to evidence the competence and compliance of passive fire protection installations. SFDC produces comprehensive photographic evidence packs for every fire stopping installation, capturing each penetration seal, cavity barrier and joint seal before it is concealed. These packs form part of the building's golden thread documentation and are provided at handover for Building Control, fire engineers and the building owner, supporting building safety case submissions and EWS1 assessments.
WE ENSURE QUALITY
Every fire stopping installation is overseen by a qualified passive fire protection supervisor. We maintain photographic records of every installation prior to concealment, and produce full certification packs for Building Control, fire engineers and building owners at project completion.
SFDC fire stopping works comply fully with BS 9999, BS 476, BS EN 1366 and Building Regulations Approved Document B. All our fire stopping operatives hold third-party certification (FIRAS or IFC Cert), providing our clients with demonstrable evidence of competence and compliance.
