IN DEPTH
Curtain walling defines the architectural character and performance of modern commercial buildings, combining large areas of glazing with a precision-engineered aluminium frame to create a lightweight, weathertight and visually striking facade. SFDC installs unitised, stick and semi-unitised curtain wall systems, structural silicone glazing (SSG) and point-fixed spider glazing for offices, hotels, educational buildings and landmark commercial developments across the UK. Our systems achieve whole facade U-values of 1.2–1.6 W/m²K and acoustic ratings up to Rw42dB, meeting the most demanding project specifications.
Where glazed compartmentation is required by Building Regulations Approved Document B, SFDC installs certified EI30 to EI60 fire-rated curtain wall systems using specialist fire-rated glass units tested to BS EN 1364 and BS EN 1365. Our curtain wall packages are fully coordinated with the building's structural frame, SFS infill and fire stopping to ensure the complete facade assembly performs as a single, compliant system. We provide full test evidence, ITPs and as-built documentation at handover, supporting Building Control sign-off and the building's golden thread of safety information.
WE ENSURE QUALITY
Our curtain wall project managers coordinate closely with the base build structure, MEP services and fit-out trades to ensure the curtain walling installation proceeds without clash or delay. We maintain detailed inspection and test plans (ITPs) throughout every installation.
SFDC curtain wall installations are designed and installed to BS EN 13830, with full compliance with Building Regulations Approved Documents L, B and M. All systems undergo independent facade testing including air permeability, water penetration and wind resistance before installation.
